Shine on Madison - November 17, 2018 - January 6, 2019
Madison's Central Business Improvement District is partnering up with area property owners, businesses, community organizations and area non-profits to present a new, unified Downtown Holiday Celebration called "Shine On Madison". This six-week community event will include a holiday lighting ceremony, a celebration of the history of the Capitol, a special focus on downtown retailers, enjoyment of our arts and a strong sense of community.

In addition to our Holiday Open House, Holiday Trolley, Carolers, and family activities, Shine on Madison will include more than 100 community events, several amazing seasonal light displays, a window display contest, and a lighting ceremony as part of the Madison Night Market Winter Carnival on November 17th with some special mischievous guests!

Voting for the Downtown Madison Window Decorating Competition begins at 6:08pm on 11/17 and runs until 12:01am on 12/18.

Downtown Holiday Trolley and Carolers

Free Holiday Trolley
Holiday shopping is especially jolly with the Downtown Trolley! The red "Holiday Shopping Trolley" will run up & down State Street and around the Capitol Square from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on the following days. Catch at bus stops:*

Fri.-Sun. Nov. 23-25 for the Downtown Holiday Open House
Sat. Dec. 1 (Until 3pm)
Sat. Dec. 8
Sat. Dec. 15
Sat. Dec. 22

The trolley will be decorated and staffed by volunteer Downtown Information Ambassadors who will greet riders, hand out treats for kids, and offer shopping suggestions, directions, and downtown maps. Riders on the trolley will also be treated to free Downtown Madison Welcome Bags with promotions, coupons, special offers and information from downtown businesses and organizations (free, one per trolley rider, while supplies last).

In addition Downtown Volunteer community and UW-Madison choral groups and dancers will stroll State Street and the Capitol Square--and even hop on the trolley--to carol and perform for shoppers on Saturdays in December. Performances start at 11 am at the Madison Children's Museum (MCM, 100 N. Hamilton St.) and at 1 pm in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art Lobby (MMoCA, 227 State Street).
