The Redirect Module creates new virtual Web addresses that redirect visitors to a specific page of your site or another site. Visits to each virtual page are counted in the control panel. You can create a virtual page by host name (such as http://support.mycompany.com/) or by filename (such as /support/developers.html).
Redirection can be used to:
- Create simple addresses for entry pages that can be used in cross-promotion. For example, http://productname.mycompany.com/ takes you to a page about that product.
- Track visitors who respond to a specific promotion or link
- Provide continued support for "legacy" pages - addresses used on previous versions of your site or other sites
The Redirect Module requires that your DNS server point wildcard hosts (*.yourdomain.com) at your site's unique IP address. This is automatic if IMS provides DNS service (which is included in the IMS SiteManager license); if your ISP provides DNS service, you should check that they will support wildcard host name resolution.
